Hello, friends!
It’s been awhile since we last talked, and I truly hope you’re well.
You probably joined my email list via my website, deonnekahler.com, but I’ve decided to move my writing to Substack, a newish creator platform. If you’re not familiar with Substack, check it out. It’s like a great party with cool people having interesting conversations and all your favorite snacks.
I’ve shared before how the last few years have been big. Dad died of kidney failure in 2019 and I moved to Rapid City, SD to be near Mom (but kept the Taos house). Then I was diagnosed with kidney disease as well as a very rare disease called LAM, and surgery took the unhealthiest chunk of my right kidney. Also, you know, COVID.
Mom and I did manage to get to Scotland, Tanzania, and Uganda, which were beautiful and inspiring.

Other than migrating to Substack, I’m updating my house in Taos, because after 19 years it was time. I’m renovating the kitchen and bathrooms, and to get ready for the demo I’ve got to clear everything out of the cupboards and fridge. I love to sort and toss/recycle, so this part is fun, but I’m reminded of how much junk accumulates in various spaces if you’re (I’m) too lazy to take the extra step and put it where it belongs.
Also, how does one person have three opened jars of capers? This is not a rhetorical question.
I do a lot of things, but at the heart I’m a writer, and it’s time I got back to it. You can expect a weekly post from me delivered to your inbox, and I’ll continue to share my photographs and travels, but I’m also going to dig into the ideas I used to talk about on my Life on the High Wire Blog. Here’s my new About page, which explains.
I’m thinking posts will always be free, but in the future if I decide to offer online courses, workshops, or live Q&A calls, those might live behind a paywall. But we’ll see, this is very much a work in progress.
Lastly, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to hit reply and let me know what’s new.
Love,
Deonne
P.S. If you don’t want emails from me, no hard feelings. I know how full the inbox can get. To unsubscribe, just click the link down below.
My goodness, friend, I had no idea you'd been through so much. Thinking of you and I look forward to more dispatches. :)
Brave has always been a word I would use to describe you! I’m sorry to hear about the health trouble but am totally not surprised you’ve found a way through it all. So very glad to be able to read your writing again!
